About me
Hi, I'm Grace.

I am a second year student enrolled in the University of Ottawa's Masters of Information Studies program. My goal is to work as a Librarian in the Ottawa Public Library, and I would specifically love to work in Children's Services. Despite the valuable analytical skills I have gained, I am interested in fostering a love for reading and helping to create lifelong readers. As my favourite hobby is creating artwork both manually and digitally, I am interested in using my creative skills to benefit the library and its patrons, and Children’s Services especially uses bright colours, interactive programs and captivating displays. I have even had some exciting artistic opportunities, including several gallery displays, having some pieces published in academic journals, creating art prizes for University awards during my undergraduate degree, and even creating the official artwork for the National Remembrance Day Ceremony for the past three years.

I also have a great passion for literature, and I chose to study English in my undergraduate degree for this reason. While I enjoy reading adult books, I also have an interest in children's literature,  and have even recently submitted my own children’s story for publication. This is one of many children's stories that I have written and even illustrated myself.

I believe the desire to work as a librarian also stems from my mother's role as a children's librarian with the Ottawa Public Library many years ago. Not only did she help other children and parents find an interest in reading, her enthusiasm fostered it in me as well. I hope that the skills gained from my MIS program, along with my own abilities and interests will not only help me achieve my goal of working as a librarian ideally within children's services, but also benefit the Ottawa Public Library itself and its patrons in the future.
